About

agilab is an AACSB award-winning academia-practice forum for understanding how decent and agile flexible work arrangements can address key workforce challenges.

Using principles of decent, agile working, our aim is to understand how to adapt when, where and how people work, to meet individual and organisational needs, using digital tools and innovative practices.

What we do

agilab was originally established in 2021 as a University of Sussex-NHS collaboration.

In our collaboration with the NHS, we have run multiple online conferences and a range of research projects. Our work has led to the production of important resources to develop decent and agile flexible working practices and arrangements, and to support managers in developing enabling mindsets.

Decent, agile working means designing work that is inclusive, safe, fair and valued. It means listening to all workers (including those from marginalised groups) when they voice preferences for flexible working, and considering human needs when implementing digital and practical innovations.

Decent, agile working can address key workforce challenges – such as recruitment and retention issues, staff absenteeism and burnout, and workforce planning – and help create more sustainable, engaging and dignified work.
